The European Football Federation (UEFA) has formally named 12 players nominated for four awards: the best goalie, attacker, middleman and scorer of the 2019/20 Champions League.
The season of the 2019/20 Champions League finished with many indelible memories in the hearts of the fans. For a lot of fans, Ronaldo (CR7) and Messi, who were disqualified early, was the highlight of the tournament.
This is also the reason why the Juventus and Barca superstar pair were not picked by UEFA in the four nominees for the best scorer of the year. Instead, three names played in the final, Robert Lewandowski, Kylian Mbappe and Neymar, were picked.
The selection this year also saw the absolute domination of Champions Bayern Munich with 7 out of 12 candidates nominated. Last season, Gray Lobster ‘s power was still overwhelming relative to the rest of the tournament. The evidence of this is the devastating wins of the Bavarian squad against Tottenham, Chelsea and even Messi’s Barca.
Meanwhile, Paris Saint-Germain’s runner-up has submitted three names with a record making the final. Midfielder Kevin De Bruyne (Manchester City) and goalie Jan Oblak (Atletico Madrid) are the others picked by UEFA.
The jury of the election featured 32 coaches from clubs competing in last season’s Champions League group stage and 55 journalists from 55 UEFA national federations. The results will be revealed in the draw to separate the 2020/21 Champions League table on 1 October.
